The Sisterhood Boutique:
A Dream Fulfilled.
To God Be the Glory. I
remember it like yesterday, October 15, 2007, the day I introduced
the world to, Ivy Rose®, the FIRST African-American doll celebrating
a sorority. Four years later, I look back at the journey and I
smile at the experience, the memories, and the friendships I gained,
simply from my desire to "Dream Big!”
The time has come for me to move forward and take with me all the
knowledge I gained as an entrepreneur to successfully move toward
fulfilling my newest dream to become a lawyer. As a third-year law
student at the
Howard University School of Law, I’m
almost there!
My decision to apply
to law school was fueled by my desire merge my business background
and education with the law so I can advocate for business clients in
the future as a corporate attorney. As many of you may know, in the
course of launching TSB, I carefully followed all the legal and
business steps to correctly do so. However, despite my diligence, I
ended up having trademark problems (with my own sorority) that were
unforeseeable. In 2008, I received noticed from the United States
Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that the trademark application
for my doll’s name, Ivy Rose®, had been opposed. It was at that
time that my desire to protect legal interest of businesses was
born. The USPTO eventually dismissed the claim and approve the Ivy
Rose trademark in November 2010 of my second year in law school.
Despite the normal academic challenges of law school, that
experience, alone, was invigorating and reaffirmed my decision to
become a lawyer.
What’s Next?
GET JOB
WITH A FIRM, GRADUATE (5.12.12), and PASS THE BAR!!!
It
really is just that simple. I believe in pursuing my passion with
excellence and I am passionate about becoming a lawyer. I don’t
define myself by what I do, but how I do it – Whatever “it” may be.
For me, practicing the law is only a small part of who I am. It does
however, provide me with another platform to help others
dream bigger and accomplish more! In short, my purpose is much
greater than a professional pursuit.
A Special Thank You.
I
really appreciate all of my customers who have supported me with
your purchases of Ivy Rose® and Ivy. I am thankful for those of you
who e-mailed or called me with words of encouragement and practical
ideas. You helped me realize how great the dolls were.
You motivated and encouraged me through some of the toughest times
with the business.
My
personal network of friends and family sustained me and through them
God provided for me. Words can never express the depth of my
gratitude for each of you. Now, with God on my side, I have asked
for His blessings as I move forward. I embrace the
Prayer
of Jabez,“‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that
Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil,
that I may not cause pain.' So God granted him what he requested"
(1
Chronicles 4:9-10).
